Born: 1942, Kabul province
Education: Attended Lycee Estiqlal, graduated as valedictorian. Attended Paris Medical School on a scholarship and received his M.D.
Work experiences: Served as the Directorate of Secretariat for former King Mohammad Zaher Shah. Under the Emergency Secretariat after the fall of the Taliban, prior to the Bonn Conference, several delegations were sent to a number of world capitals. He accompanied President Karzai at the time as the leading member of the Executive Committee of the Loya Jirga.
Under the Karzai administration, he served as Minister of Civil Aviation and was unanimously approved by Cabinet in March 2002. Rassoul played an important role in Afghanistan's readmission to the International Civil Aviation Organization (IATA).
He was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs in January 2010. However, he resigned from his position to formally file nomination as a candidate in the 2014 Presidential elections. His First Vice President is Ahmad Zia Massoud and his Second Vice President is Habiba Surabi.
